Will be adding speed paint videos over there :) >> [link]

Initially I was just going to be posting this to Instagram, (thought I'd crop to a square shape which is why you can see my sketchbook), but it was over a minute so I started a Youtube~

Inktober 2019

1 min read
Untitled by silenoswithaleopard

This year I'm using paint in my Inktober drawings :) I want to just draw/paint everyday, even after Inktober is over. I'm going to be opening a new online shop sometime this month to sell originals and signed prints.
Good luck to everyone who's participating this year! Happy October and

I  gouache.
You can paint thick and dry or water it down and let it flow. Cover up mistakes, too. Side note, it is physically impossible for me to color inside lines! I find perfection in messiness I suppose, atleast in my own work.

Until I found it back in 2011 I was confused about my work and didn't enjoy my drawings, which were done in colored ink. Isn't it interesting how easily we all could've not been artists? Maybe? Perhaps it's just me ;)

At first I worked in watercolor gouache then moved to acryla gouache. A little about the difference: I found watercolor gouache to be chalky which is interesting but breakable and watersoluble. The rubbery matte-ness of acryla gouache is perfect for me and doesn't eat up my pens so quickly

At art/craft shows I often hear that people either hate or have a hard time with gouache and just give it up. Usually, it's a part of school painting project and it just didn't make any sense to them. Perhaps there wasn't enough time to experiment? Or...

maybe everyone has their medium!

For me, gouache is a huge reason why I still make art today.

I'd like to feature some of my favorite pieces from Deviantart and also some of my favorite artists elsewhere. These aren't in any kind of order!

Artists On Deviantart

1. Godzilla in gouache by aaronjohngregory
Given the description aaronjohngregory had some troubles, he did awesome with it nonetheless :D

2. Snufkin by Foyaland

Foyaland creates such cute pieces and actually worked on Wakfu, (my roommate is playing Dofus as I type this, such an adorable world :meow:). She is more active on IG than DA :  www.instagram.com/foyaland/?hl…

3. Brigada Commission by EnriqueFernandezMononoke fan art 1 by EnriqueFernandez
EnriqueFernandez is a comic book/animation artist  Look at that style!

4. Sweden summer/winter by Marfigram
I remember the day this piece by Marfigram came out. It was back in 2012 and it inspired me to paint so many landscapes which really jump-started my career as an artist within my local community. I just love their work!

5. Ian with Gouache by Laovaan
Laovaan has created a walkthrough video for this stunning piece here youtu.be/pD0BVtZbmys

Now for artists elsewhere!

Actually, one artist that I wanted to include in the list above is Kai Carpenter. His work inspired me so much. It seems that he's deleted his DA account. I panicked at first because I'd forgotten his name and none of his gorgeous works were still in my faves! I then googled "gouache" and "mermaid".

HA.

I eventually found him with some digging on Pinterest. So, if you have any fave artists, be sure to bookmark their website/blogs!

1. Spring-tide By Kaicarpenter600 864 by silenoswithaleopardThe Love And The Fear Of Sir Gawain By Kaicarpente by silenoswithaleopard

Riikka Auvinen is another artist who used to be on DA (her username was Tir-ri). She mixes watercolor with gouache. I just love how she paints faces, especially eyes :)

I'm sure there are many more that have influenced me!

What about you? How do you feel about gouache? Do you have any artists you'd like to recommend?

Thanks for looking!
